Legend about queen Jadwiga’s foot F05
Olga Pędrys Ia

Once upon a time in Cracow, good Queen Jadwiga was a ruler. Everybody loved her, because she was beautiful, and generous for poor people.

One day, she went with her court to the place, where people were building a church, which she founded. The church was growing up. The builders were working – some with stones. Everybody was happy, because they were working for God.

Jadwiga was looking at the builders, and she praised them for their work. Suddenly, she saw the young builder. He was shaping the stone. She came closer to him, because he was sad. She asked him:

-Why are you sad? Are you ill?

-No, not me. But my wife. – He answered. – We are poor people, so I don’t have money for a doctor and medicine, because I must buy food for my children. I pray to God, for a help. – He said, and he started craying. Queen put her foot on the stone, which the builder was shaping. She undid the gold buckle from her shoe and she gave it to the builder, and said:

-Take it and buy your wife everything what she needs. The builder kissed her dress, and he ran to his house. Few moments later he came back to his work. He was very happy. He wanted to continue his work, and suddenly, he saw a small foot impressed in the stone. That was a Queen’s foot. They put the stone into a wall, and it is still there until today.
