This is the best comedy I have ever seen. It is an American – British comedy
from 2002 directed by the brothers Paul and Chris Weltz and stars: Hugh Grant,
Toni Collette and Nicholas Hoult.
The title role is played by Hugh Grant who appears as 38-year-old Will Freeman.
He is a typical playboy who hasn’t got a job, but is rich, cynical and lazy. He
hasn’t got a family. He has lots of girlfriends, but he can’t live in a close
relationship with anyone. One day he meets Marcus (Nicholas Hoult), a
12-year-old boy who has problems at school and they become friends. Will teaches
Marcus how to be a cool kid, and Marcus helps Will grow up. Pretty but sad Fiona
(Toni Collette) is Marcus’s mother, and she tries to commit suicide.
The film was nominated for a lot of awards. I found it really interesting,
intelligent and funny. It also teaches us that everyone can change for the
better.
