Directed by Stephen Daldry, this drama was produced in 2002 in the USA and UK.
The main roles were played by three excellent actresses: Nicole Kidman, Julianne
Moore and Meryl Streep.
“The Hours” is a story about three women who live in different times and come
from different social backgrounds, but they share similar emotions. They live
with people who, in their opinion, make them avoid a better life.
The main characters in the film are Virginia Woolf (played by Nicole Kidman),
Laura Brown (Julianne Moore) and Clarissa Vough (Meryl Streep). The first woman
is a writer living in London in 1924. She writes a book entitled “Mrs Dalloway”.
She has lots of problems with her personality. Laura - the second woman - lives
in Los Angeles in 1951. She is a housewife and has a wonderful husband and a
son. She reads the book written by Virginia Woolf, which makes her think about
her life. The third woman is Clarissa – a modern woman living in New York in
2001. She publishes books and has a friend who suffers from AIDS. He wrote a
book about her and she looks after him.
In my opinion the main purpose of this film is to ask yourself some important
questions: “Am I the same as everyone or am I someone exceptional? Or “How is my
life, my hours…?” I recommend this film because it made a big impression on me.
