“A tree can grow to the sky if it is deeply rooted in the ground – traditions
are our roots.”
By tradition we mean the corpus of historic events, legends, customs,
convictions, social practices, empirical knowledge, scientific knowledge,
philosophical beliefs and aesthetic perceptions which are passed down from
generation to generation either in written form or orally. Traditions accompany
us from the moment of our birth to the moment when our life comes to an end.
Thus, they are closely connected to important moments of our life, for instance
birth, marriage, death etc.
We live in Europe, and Poland is a country which belongs to the European Union.
Our school – the Junior Secondary School in Zabierzów - participates in the
Comenius project: “E-learning and Web2 tools as means of enhancing education
outcomes and establishing transnational cooperation.” The students and teachers
of the partner schools discuss various issues by the Internet using the
students’ blog and the moodle platform.
Last October the students took part in the e-lesson entitled: “Traditions in my
country.” After having done a lot of interesting activities, they tried to
answer some difficult but very important questions: Why should we maintain our
own traditions? What do our traditions tell us about ourselves? Why are they
important for our national identity? Which traditions make us (the European
nations) similar and which ones make us different from one another?
After that the students were encouraged to make their own Power Point
presentations about Polish traditions. The best presentations were chosen and
awarded.
