St. Valentine's Day is celebrated on the 14th of February. It is one of the most
popular holidays in Great Britain and the USA. Since the 1990s, it has been
popular in Poland especially among teenagers and young people.
The old legend says that from the 14th of February the birds on the British
Isles (where the climate is mild) start choosing their partners and living in
pairs.
Today people in many countries celebrate St. Valentine's Day. This day is the
day of lovers. On this day people send Valentine's cards to a person they love.
Typical cards have hearts, cupids and doves on them. There is also a custom of
buying roses, chocolates or other small presents. A rose must be red because it
symbolizes love. Other symbols of St. Valentine's Day are cupids and hearts.
If you want to show your affection for somebody - your girlfriend, your
boyfriend or simply a person you like or love – don’t forget about this day in
the middle of February which in Poland is usually cold, frosty and snowy ! Any
occasion is good to express your warm feelings and bring joy and happiness to
another person.
