Playing host to our American friends! E01
Wiktoria Grela IIb

On the 20th of June, our friends (11 students, 2 parents and 1 teacher) from Camas, USA came to Zabierzow. At the airport, we were waiting for them nervously and wondering what they would be like. Finally, when their plane landed, they collected their luggage and went to their host family’s home. After they have been here for 10 days, we found out that they were just like every other teenager The next day after their arrival was Polish-American Day at our middle school. We showed them around our school and had a performance plus a power point presentation about our traditions. Then, we held a students’ debate about education in Poland and the USA. On Tuesday, we went for a sightseeing trip to Cracow. On Wednesday, we held Sports Day and had a picnic in Bolechowicka Valley. On the following day, we took a trip to the Salt Mine in Wieliczka. It was great but we all were really exhausted after walking along wonderful, “salty” corridors. On Friday, we had our school end ceremony and as soon as it was over we went to Niedzica where we toured the old castle. Next, we slept in the Pieniny mountain hostel Durbaszka. The next morning, we went to Slovakia by bus, where we went rafting on the Dunajec River. On Sunday, we could take our guests wherever we wanted, so I took mine to the shopping mall. They bought some souvenirs from Poland. On Monday, we had a farewell party at the Nielepice horse ranch. Our goodbye was sad, because we knew we wouldn’t see each other again for months. The last day was Tuesday but unfortunately, that was the day of their departure. We spent an unforgettable time together and of course, made lots of new friends. Luckily, time passes quickly. We are happy, because we will see them again next year at the beginning of June. This time in Camas, USA.
