CRACOW’S DRAGON B10
Szymon Mitka kl. IIa — Gimnazjum w Zabierzowie

Once upon a time, in the very early ages in the center of Cracow there was a hill named Wawel Hill with a beautiful castle on top. King Krak lived there together with his people in peace and harmony. But one day a very, very big problem arrived to town. This problem was Dragon. He found a cave under Wawel Hill, went into it and made himself comfortable. When King Krak heard about Dragon, he thought he would leave the town soon and leave people in peace. However, he didn’t. Dragon found a good house in the cave and he wasn't going to go away. Soon, King Krak heard about killings and deaths of his people. Dragon was responsible for these deaths and then began to eat animals as well as people. His favorite meal were Cracow's virgins. One day the king had an idea. He had a daughter named Wanda and he promised her hand in marriage to any knight or man that would kill Dragon. Many men were eaten and killed in fighting Dragon, but the beast remained alive. Finally, the shoemaker Dratewka came up with an idea how to kill Dragon. He loved Wanda and wanted to marry her. He made a sheep from some cloth and packed it with some explosive materials (gun powder) and spices and placed it at the cave’s entrance. He hid behind a stone near Dragon's cave and waited and waited.... Suddenly, Dragon appeared. He loved sheep; they were his second favorite food, so he ate it. Some time later he started running in circles. Then he went quickly to the Vistula River because he felt terribly thirsty. He drank, drank and drank. Finally, he exploded into a million pieces. Dratewka married Wanda and became a king. They lived happily ever after.
