Interview with Mr. Stanek A12
Karolina Węgiel, Wojciech Stanek, kl. IA, gimnazjum w Zabierzowie

Rafał Stanek – born in Kraków, moved to Zabierzów municipality 7 years ago. In 2004 (as a parent of two kids attending the Primary School in Bolechowice), co-founded a local NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) called the Foundation for Education-Development-Environment. His hobbies are biking, mountain excursions, and movies. He likes the natural environment of Zabierzów surroundings.

•Who is the founder of the Foundation?

The founders are the parents and teachers from the primary school in Bolechowice. They wanted to extend and enrich the standard of the school syllabus.

•What kind of projects do you implement and for whom?

We mainly organize interesting extracurricular lessons for students from different schools from our community. We organize a lot of English lessons as well as chess, table tennis, American football and ceramics classes.

•Whose idea was the "Bugle" project?

It was mainly the idea of our friend David Toft - an American who lives in Poland. He is interested in the foundation and while talking one day, we came up with the idea of preparing a newspaper in English. In this way the students of the Junior Secondary School in Zabierzów with the help of their English teachers have started to put this idea into practice.

•What do you expect from this project?

Our aim is to make our students more interested in English. We think that preparing a newspaper in English - writing texts, taking photos - is a very creative way of learning a foreign language. Additionally, there will be some competitions and awards - for example, for the most interesting article or for the voters.

•How do you feel in our community?

I feel very well and comfortable. I like our landscape, the beautiful forests, trails for bike tours or walks, and also the developing infrastructure. But there are things which still irritate me, for example rubbish in the forests, noise during holidays, no parking places and information boards for tourists.

•Do you like our Junior Secondary school in Zabierzów? What would you change if you could?

I like your taking part in "Bugle" and Comenius projects. But I think there is too much theory, but not enough practical knowledge in the science subjects in your school. That means that in the future you will know a lot of information, but you won't be able to use it. Also schools should teach pupils to work in the groups, which is very useful.

•Thank you very much for the interview and work you do for our school.

Thank you.
